Switzerland has announced that on April 1, all remaining Covid-19 pandemic restrictions will be lifted. The pandemic's "acute phase," according to authorities, has ended. The number of new infections continues to decline, and concerns that Covid-related hospitalizations will overwhelm the healthcare system have abated.

The number of new Covid-19 infections reported each year decreases. As of May 31, there had been a total of 6,941 new cases reported in the previous seven days. The weekly average of new infections was 945, representing a 22% decrease from the previous week. Beginning in April, the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) will no longer provide daily coronavirus statistics.

Covid-19 has killed over 12,700 people in Switzerland, a country of 8.7 million people.

The vaccine has been administered to approximately 69 percent of the population. The FOPH and the Federal Commission for Vaccination do not currently recommend a second booster shot.
