Canada reports 168 confirmed cases of Monkeypox

Thereas Tam, Chief Public Health Officer in Canada, has confirmed that there were a total of 168 cases of Monkeypox in the country as of last count on Friday. 

The top doctor, speaking on the sidelines of a health briefing, said that the confirmed cases had been reported nationwide. They include four cases from Alberta, two cases from British Columbia, 141 from Quebec, as well as 21 from Ontario. 

“As the monkeypox situation evolves, we will help territories and provinces in their attempts to roll out tailored vaccination campaigns”, says Tam, who adds that they are aiming to improve understanding of how the virus is spread.

To date, only males between the ages of 20 and 69 have been identified and reported to Canada’s Public Health Agency.

But the danger of monkeypox infection is not confined to any one population or environment. The virus can be transmitted to anybody, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, if they are in direct physical contact with a person who has monkeypox or with personal items such as towels or bed linens that the individual has used.
