The Interim Technical Chamber of Research, or CâmaraPox MCTI, was founded by Brazil's Department of Science, Innovation, and Creativity to oversee scientific advancement on monkeypox.

Reports of illness in the UK, Portuguese, Spain, and the US in May 2022 prompted the research surveillance. No official reports of monkeypox in Brazil, the government said.

The proposal was fashioned after the RedeVrus MCTI, a group of specialists created in February 2020, before the WHO proclaimed a coronavirus epidemic. It advises the minister on strategy in research, innovation, and development.
