According to Uganda's Health Ministry, there was a rise in COVID-19 infections last week. The ministry urged the public to return to earlier measures like avoiding large gatherings, wearing face masks, and washing their hands.

There has been an increase in infections in Uganda, which were previously zero per day to an average of 50 per day, with the majority of infections being recorded in the rural districts of Kampala and Wakiso in central Uganda.

According to the Health Minister of Uganda, Dr. Ruth Aceng, "this rise is similar in nature to what was seen in June 2021 when the Delta variant of COVID-19 was predominant in the country."

She noted that the Omicron variant of coronavirus is more prevalent in the country as of now and that, although it is often mild in its symptoms, it can cause severe disease and death for those with health underlying risks.
