In Pakistan, two new cases of polio have been discovered

Islamabad (Pakistan): Two more cases of polio have been reported in the Mir Ali district of North Waziristan, bringing the total number of infections in the country to six this year.

More cases of polio infection are predicted to occur from May to September, when viral circulation increases, according to Dawn daily.

An 18-month-old child and a young girl of the same age were the two polio victims. Both will spend the rest of their lives crippled.

According to the Dawn newspaper, six consecutive polio cases were discovered in south KP, along with sewage problems, indicating an intense continuous transmission in the area, according to Pakistan's Ministry of National Health Service Director General Rana Safdar.

"The issue exposes flaws in our previous campaign's efforts to secure immunity. Immunization and door-to-door initiatives, for example, have significant obstacles in gaining community support "As previously noted by Safdar.

According to Nadeem Jan, a public health expert, some polio workers have resorted to false finger tagging due to parental unwillingness. Attempts to locate polio cases were also abandoned. He requested that those in charge of eliminating the sickness be held accountable.

According to the Dawn daily, the Director-General also emphasised the significance of doing another comprehensive risk assessment, this time involving specific districts in Afghanistan due to epidemiological linkages.

"It's critical to have a strong response that's backed up by a well-thought-out communication and engagement strategy. Vaccination initiatives, both mandated and elective, must be prioritised at the same time (SIAs). The National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) and the Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI) would work together to respond to the tragedy, coordinating their efforts with those in Afghanistan." The Federal Health Minister, Abdul Qadir Patel, also advised Pakistanis to vaccinate their children, according to the Dawn newspaper.

After more than a year, Pakistan discovered its first case of polio on April 22. Despite the fact that the number of infections has reduced in recent years, it is still one of only two nations in the world, along with Afghanistan, where polio is still endemic.
