Egypt's Acting Minister of Health and Population who doubles as Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, reaffirmed the country's willingness to work with the global community to implement the "One Health" strategy.

In his presentation prior to the plenary session of the 75th General Assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO), held on Tuesday in Geneva, the Minister expressed gratitude to the organization for its assistance to countries during the Coronavirus crisis.

The minister stated that the COVID-19 crisis demonstrated how there is no protection for any person or nation until everyone is protected, highlighting the significance of combining global efforts to confront all public health incidents of worldwide importance.

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the authorized spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, highlighted the inadequacies in the coordination of global response to the Coronavirus pandemic and the associated repercussions of fairness and inequality in delivering all tools and necessities for reacting to public health emergencies, as well as the failure to discuss technologies and information, which needed synchronized global action.

The minister also emphasized that avoiding upcoming epidemiological hazards necessitates countries thoroughly considering the hurdles that affected nations' rapid and effective response ability to health emergencies. The pandemic demonstrated a disparity between the requisite and timely response and the accessibility of tools to achieve this.

Concerning Egypt's reaction to the pandemic, Abdel Ghaffar stated that the Ministry of Health's strategy was rooted in integrating all safety precautions, including the publication of a detailed vaccination plan that has yielded amazing results so far, as well as amplifying measures to secure the continued provision of health services in an effective and flexible manner.

One Health is a transdisciplinary, multi-sectoral, and interactive approach working at global, national, regional, and local levels to improve health care by acknowledging the connectedness between the people, plants, animals, and the environment they share.
