According to the most recent weekly bulletin from the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), the number of polio cases increased in two African nations this week: Burkina Faso and Chad. The two countries reported instances of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus 2 (cVDPV2) that was reported to be circulating.

Burkina Faso has reported three new cases, one in Bobo and two in Ouagadougou. All of these cases are retroactive and date back to the year 2020, reaching a total of cases for that year up to 68. In the previous year, the nation had two reported cases.

Meanwhile, Chad identified two more cases of cVDPV2, both of which took place in N'djamena, bringing the country's total for this year up to five.
