Health Minister advises elderly citizens to avail of the second Covid-19 booster shot

Elderly citizens advised to get the second Covid-19 booster shot for enhanced protection, says Health Minister. With the possibility of another surge in infections, specific groups, including those above sixty and with chronic conditions, are encouraged to boost their immunity with a supplementary dose. So far, no adverse effects have been reported from the additional booster dose.

Health Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin has urged elderly citizens who are above sixty years of age and others with chronic conditions to take a second Covid-19 vaccine booster shot to enhance their protection against the infection.

He stated that, this is since the number of new Covid-19 cases varies, and it is likely that Malaysia might be hit by another surge of infections in 2 - 3 months.

"We don't know how widespread or large this wave will be, but statistical trends in other nations indicate that it will occur."

"That is why specific groups (of individuals), such as the elderly and those suffering from chronic medical conditions, are encouraged to boost their immunity with a supplementary dose," the minister told reporters after kicking off a dialogue with the ministry of Health's (MOH) conference for hospital directors' on Tuesday.

According to Khairy, as of June 21, 2022, around 1,07,844 Malaysians had gotten the Covid-19 vaccination subsequent booster dosage, and 5,78,34 of them were seniors aged above 60 years. "We have not heard any complaints of adverse effects from the additional booster dose," he added.
