Many Haitians have switched to consuming food packaged in plastic rather than native, biodegradable materials in recent decades. This is similar to what is done in the United States and Europe, where plastic packaging is widely used. Haiti prohibited plastic bags in 2012 to combat the issue.

Many Western nations are reconsidering their use of plastic packaging. Research has discovered small plastic particles trapped in human lungs, sparking concerns about the potential health risks of plastic usage.

With love for Haiti

A cleaning initiative was initiated by For Haiti with Love in the northern city of Cap Haitien. Eve Dehart discusses her work. “Not only is it unattractive and stinky, but it also serves as a breeding place for a variety of illnesses.” Our team is attempting to enlist the help of other groups and businesses to clean up their regions.”

Businesses are the ones that generate the most garbage. According to Dehart, they build stuff up in the hopes that the municipal officials would take care of it. “Our team is attempting to raise awareness that this is not the case and that individuals, especially companies downtown, must take responsibility for their rubbish disposal.”
