Dr Noor Hisham: Malaysia records 15.5pc drop in new Covid-19 cases

In Malaysia, the number of new Covid-19 cases declined by 15.5 percent in epidemiological week 22 (ME 22), from May 29 to June 4, to 11,052 cases, down from 13,076 the week before (ME 21).

More than 4,513,631 cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Malaysia, according to Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, Malaysia's Health Minister.

At 23,290 active cases per day, the ME 22 has dropped 8.2 percent from the previous week's average.

According to a statement released today, the average infectivity rate (Rt value) decreased by 2.2 percent to 0.91 from 0.93 the previous week.

A total of 4,455,499 cases have been recovered from the ME 22 so far, according to him. The ME 21 has seen a 13.4% decrease in recovered cases, going from 15,925 to 13,797.

According to Dr. Noor Hisham, the number of ME 22 deaths increased by 36.8 percent from the previous week's 19 to 26. To date, 35,686 people have died as a result of exposure to Covid-19.

The number of Covid-19 patients admitted to health facilities, such as public hospitals and Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centers, has risen by 11 percent in the past year (PKRCs).

The number of Covid-19 patients admitted to public hospitals remained constant at 0.03 per 100,000 people across all demographic groups. There has been a 17 percent decrease in the number of patients requiring breathing aids.

Overall, the number of ICU beds has decreased by 14%, while the number of non-critical beds has increased by 8%," he said, referring to the decrease in ICU beds and the increase in non-critical beds.

At the Covid-19 Assessment Center (CAC) and at home, more than 11.6 percent of Covid-19 positive cases and 17.8 percent of new Covid-19 cases were monitored.

Consequently, the number of CAC referrals for Covid-19 increased by 2.5 percent, he said.
