Mozambique Records 16 Covid-19 Recoveries and 27 New Cases
On Wednesday, the Mozambican health authorities announced another 27 new Covid-19 infections.
The Ministry of Health announced that 17 of the new cases were females while 10 were males. Out of that number, 25 were Mozambicans and the remaining two were foreigners (although their nationalities were not disclosed). All the new cases were between six and sixty-five years old.
The majority of the cases were from Mozambique’s southern province of Maputo (1 from Gaza, 3 from Inhambane, 8 from Maputo City, and 13 from Maputo Province). Cabo Delgado’s northern province also reported 2 occurrences.
Since the pandemic started, 1,328,206 Mozambicans have been tested for Covid-19 infection, with 815 of such tests happening in the last 24 hours.
There have been 788 tests that returned negative, but the 27 positive cases resulted in a total of 225,781 Covid-19 infections discovered in Mozambique.
The positive rate (the proportion of individuals examined who were found to be infected with the coronavirus) dropped from 7.22% on Tuesday to 3.31% on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, the Ministry of Health announced that there were no mortalities this week, thus the Mozambican Covid-19 death toll stands at 2,203 people.
One of the two remaining Covid-19 patients was discharged from a Maputo hospital on Wednesday, and a new patient was hospitalized (in Inhambane). In Matola and Gaza, 6 and 2 people respectively were receiving medical treatment, 1 in Inhambane and 1 in Maputo city. Two of these patients were in critical condition and were being given additional oxygen.
On Wednesday, there were 16 complete recoveries from Covid-19 (6 in Gaza and 10 in Maputo city). The current total number of recoveries is 223,413, which is 98.95% of the entire Covid-19 cases ever diagnosed in Mozambique.
The count of active Covid-19 infections increased from 150 to 161 on Tuesday and Wednesday. The distribution of the active infections based on locations was as follows: Sofala, 1; Niassa, 2; Nampula, 3; Cabo Delgado, 7; Inhambane, 8; Gaza, 14; Maputo city, 51; and Maputo province, 75. There were no active Covid-19 infections in Manica, Tete, or Zambezia.
Over the previous 24 hours, 13,637 more individuals received Covid-19 vaccination according to the Ministry. So far, 14,363,673 people have been immunized against the virus, which is 94.4% of all eligible citizens above 18 years.
