COVID-19 vaccines go to waste as rollout stalls

Because of a large volume of vaccine waste, Australian medical specialists are urging greater government direction in offering COVID-19 vaccines to underdeveloped nations. 

More than 95 percent of Australians over the age of 16 have received two doses, and around 300,000 vaccinations are given every week in Australia.

Only 68.9% of eligible people have had three or more doses in the last few weeks, a decrease of only 4% during the preceding month in vaccination uptake.

Most youngsters aged five to 11 have already had their first vaccination, according to a recent study.

Dr. Karen Price, President of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), has called for immediate action to donate extra dosages and reduce waste.

"The wealthy world as a whole, including Australia, needs to wake up and do much more to improve immunization efforts in the developing world," Dr. Price said.
