The Ministry of transport in Cameroon just released data that shows that in the last 2 years, air traffic in and out of the country had fallen drastically as a direct repercussion of the coronavirus pandemic.
Between 2019 and 2020, foreign aviation traffic in Cameroon decreased by 62% from 868,788 down to 357,564 passengers. Over the same year, domestic passenger traffic decreased by 70.83 percent from 329,781 down to 104,295 passengers.
Covid-19 pandemic restrictions are to blame for the Ministry of Transportation's publication of these stats, which show a decline in performance. In 2020, international air travel would have accounted for 51% of total traffic in Cameroon, while transit will account for 23%, domestic traffic 15%, and sub-regional traffic 14%.
"Over the 2016-2020 timeframe, departure flights at Yaoundé, Maroua Salak, and Douala airports were more common than arrival flights. From 2016 to 2019, the number of inbound flights increased from 585,538 to 719,778. Between 2019 to 2020, the quantity of passengers flying in and out of all of the airports I monitor decreased by around 63% "said, according to the Ministry of Transportation.
Camair Co, as national carrier, is just one of a total of 14 airlines that operate internationally in and out of Cameroon.
