ActionAid Malawi gave COVID-19 PPE’s to its different partners under Global Fund COVID-19 Response Mechanism (C19RM) project.

These PPE’s were officially donated in Lilongwe and are worth $1 million. It includes hand washing setups, bicycles, soap, sanitizers as well as reusable masks.

According to the manager of the program, Dalitso Kuphanga, this project is lending support to countries to mitigate the harmful effects of COVID-19 upon the programs that fight TB, AIDS, and Malaria.

According to Kuphanga, the Health Ministry which is the principal recipient of C19RM went on to sub-grant around $7.2 million, out of which a part was used to buy the PPE’s by the organization.

Kuphanga said that they will be working at both the community level as well as district-level including community-based organizations, networks for TB, as well as networks for people with HIV/AIDS, as well as volunteers. These go on to support the structure of the health ministry and the structures that belong to sub-recipients.

The 5 sub-recipients are CRECCOM, SAT, FPAM, MANET+, and the ECM.

The country director of SAT, Robert Phiri, thanked Action Aid Malawi for the donation of the PPE’s, saying that they will go a long way in letting communities respond in a more effective manner against COVID-19 as well as its impact on the fight against other diseases.

Doreen Sanje who is the manager for Global Fund as well as GAVI implementation of projects in the Health Ministry ends by saying that she expects the items will reach the intended people and also be used for the right purpose.
