The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States announced on Friday that it is looking into 109 cases of severe and unexplained hepatitis in children across 25 states that could be linked to a global outbreak.

Eight children required liver transplants in total. Five people have been killed.

Almost all of the children – 94 percent – needed to be hospitalized.
