The Omicron subvariant BA.5 presently accounts for 25.4% of all instances in Luxembourg

BA.5 seems to be somewhat more contagious than the prior Omicron type.

According to a legislative question presented by the CSV to Minister of Health Paulette Lenert, the Omicron BA.5, which has lately been on the rise in Portugal, accounted for approximately 25.4% by May end.

The subvariant is assumed to be to blame for the recent modest rise in cases since it seems to be more infectious than the preceding Omicron variant. Despite the increase in occurrences, the subvariant does not seem to cause serious sickness, according to Lenert.

Initial research on the subvariant indicates that Covid vaccines are less effective against the Omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5. People who have already been infected with the virus are also at risk of illness.

The Minister of Health did not elaborate on the government's plans for the fall months. She did, however, mention that preparations for the pandemic were proceeding in all sectors related to it, such as testing, treatments, contact tracing, hygiene measures, and immunisation.
