In Madagascar, there has been a considerable increase in new cases of COVID-19. More than 207 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in only one week.

An increase of more than 100%

Last weekend, Madagascar's Ministry of Public Health released the most recent data on COVID-19. According to L'Express de Madagascar, a considerable increase has been detected as 207 new cases of coronavirus were detected from June 4 to June 10 out of 4,400 tests conducted.

This represents a 100% spike over the previous week, when 101 new cases were reported between May 28 and June 3.

Most COVID-19 affected Analamanga region

With 161 cases, the Analamanga region is the most hit by the coronavirus. Atsinanana (24 cases), Vakinankaratra (16 cases), and Boney (2 cases) are the next most affected regions by the virus. However, one case has been reported in the Atsimo-Atsinanana, Bongolava, and Haute Matsiatra regions.

Currently, 283 people are being treated, with only three of them having significant viral infection cases.

The risk of rising cases remain

The massive festive gatherings throughout the Easter and Pentecost celebrations, as well as the austral winter season that is commencing to settle on the Big Island (Madagascar), have increased the number of cases.

As the 62nd anniversary of Madagascar's independence approaches on June 26, the statistics may become even more alarming.
