South Africa: Covid-19 positivity falls below 10%

According to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, the COVID-19 positivity rate is less than 10%. (NICD).

The NICD has reported not less than  1004 fresh cases of the virus in the previous 24-h reporting period, that has a positivity rate of 9.4 percent. The province with the maximum new infections is Gauteng, followed by KwaZulu-Natal.

The provinces with new COVID-19 infections are as follows:

In Gauteng, there were 435 cases.

There were 172 cases reported in KwaZulu-Natal.

Western Cape has160 new cases.

At least 77 fresh cases have been reported in the Free State.

In Mpumalanga, there were 46 fresh cases.

43 fresh cases have been reported in North West.

Eastern Cape has 38 fresh cases.

There were 23 fresh cases reported in the Northern Cape.

Limpopo had 10 fresh cases of the virus.

The total reported cases has now reached 3 954 971, with 16 deaths reported, four of which occurred in the last 24 t- 48 hours. So far, COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 100,162 people.

Meanwhile, during the previous 24-hour reporting period, 38 754 COVID-19 vaccine were given in South Africa. The total vaccinations administered is now 36 063 285.
