Health officials told Xinhua on Tuesday that South Korea had 6,172 more COVID-19 cases as of midnight Monday than it had 24 hours earlier, bringing the total number of infections to 18,174,880.

According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, the daily caseload was slightly higher than 5,022 the previous day, but lower than 17,185 tallied a week earlier (KDCA).

This week, Xinhua reported that the daily average number of confirmed cases was 10,186.

These new cases were all imported, which brings the total number of infections to 33,000.

There was a total of 117 people in critical condition as of this morning, a decrease of 12 from the previous day.

The death toll from the pandemic has now reached 24,299, making it the deadliest in history. 0.13 percent of the population died.
