After the recent detection of the Covid-19 virus in sewage samples collected from the city, the Hong Kong Special administrative region (HKSAR) Government has decided to distribute around 1,80,000 Covid-19 rapid antigen test (RAT) kits.
The Rapid Antigen Test kits will be distributed amongst the residents and cleaning and maintenance crew that work in areas that are displaying high rates of positive test results and high viral loads. This move is to be introduced to identify infected people and reduce the number of cases.
The HKSAR government has requested that all positive test results will have to be recorded on the Government’s online platform.
As of June 19, 2022, The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) recorded 1,161 new, locally transmitted cases of Covid-19 and 115 imported cases.
The Spokesman of the CHP informed that the Covid-19 situation in Hong Kong is still severe and the CHP strongly advised the community members to continue to comply with measures to curb the spread of the virus.
