Þórður Guðnason, the Icelandic Directorate of Health's Chief Epidemiologist, explained that "These are the numbers for people who have been confirmed to have Covid. There are certainly more who have been infected with the virus."

Guðnason further explained that, there are around 100 new Covid cases discovered daily. It's conceivable that more people are infected with the virus and wait it out at home without getting formal testing or sharing information with the Health department.

That indicates that Covid is very well-established in the community. "We've got a reasonable herd immunity, because otherwise things would be much worse," he adds.
