Nurses who have moved are being asked to return to Jamaica as part of attempts to alleviate a shortfall of health care personnel, according to Health and Wellness Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton.

Nurse migration has increased dramatically in recent years, according to the Minister, and this is badly affecting the health system.

Dr. Tufton stated last month that he would want to see nurses migrate on a flexible contract arrangement, in which they may work three months overseas and two months in Jamaica.

The Minister noted, while on a visit of the St. Ann's Bay Regional Institution in St. Ann, that up to 5 nurses leave the hospital every month.
