According to Deputy Education and Vocational Training Minister Ali Abdul Ghulam Hussein, the university is currently developing its medical studies competence.

In answer to a question from Hassan Hamad Omar of Kojani, the deputy minister indicated that Zanzibar needs a traditional medicine department.

When asked about the government's plans to build a faculty of herbal medicine, the senator noted that alternative remedies are preferred by the majority of Zanzibaris, even though most healers lack scientific expertise.
