Japan to open to tourists after 2 years but only with masks, insurance, guides

On Tuesday, the Japanese government said that visitors to the country will be required to take out private health insurance, wear masks, and always have a chaperone with them.

tour package tourists only will be allowed during the reopening of the first phase, beginning on June 10th, as the Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) says. Masks are required for visitors who are accompanied by tour guides from their own organizations.

“Tour guides must regularly remind members of necessary infection prevention procedures, such as wearing and eliminating masks, at every stage of the tour,” the JTA said in its guidelines.

At all times, masks should be worn by anyone within touching distance of another.

Nearly all non-Japanese citizens are now barred from entering the country because of the pandemic.

Taking a cue from other nations, Japan has begun easing the COVID-19 restrictions. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has made it clear that the country’s borders will be brought into line with those of the rest of the developed world in the future.
