Monday, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) warned of a rise in COVID-19 cases in the Maldives after a decline in recent months.

In a statement released tonight, HPA said recent statistics show an increase in cases. Last week, 141 cases were confirmed.

HPA noted a 60% increase from the previous week. They also noted an increase in sample positivity and hospitalizations for the disease.

Last month, 15 people were hospitalised with COVID-19. 11 people were hospitalised from the beginning of the month to June 12.

HPA must isolate and test anyone exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms to prevent further spread. The authority advised wearing masks if sick and in crowded places.

HPA has asked COVID-19-positive people for contact information. They also urged those who haven’t received the recommended COVID-19 doses to do so.
