The humanitarian situation is escalating for residents of Mahaday district, Middle Shabelle region, where an outbreak of acute watery diarrhoea has erupted.
In the Middle Shabelle region's Kulmis, Shiidle-bari, Burfulle, and Diin-lawe villages, about 50 individuals have died of acute watery diarrhoea in the last three months.
Drought has wreaked havoc on these locations across the country.
Infected persons have also been transferred to Jowhar Hospital in Hirshabelle's capital, where they are being rehabilitated.
In an interview with SONNA, Mahaday District Commissioner Ahmed Hussein Afrah revealed that the humanitarian situation in the area has worsened, with at least 50 people dying from severe watery diarrhoea and other ailments.
People, especially those living by the river, are using contaminated water owing to a lack of water, he noted, which has resulted in the spread of acute watery diarrhoea and other ailments in those areas, and people are being sent to health organisations for health care.
