In Chanthabouly, Xaysettha, Laos, save the children international is working to reduce dengue transmission

Save the Children International, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health's Department of Communicable Diseases Control, is implementing a pilot program in Chanthabouly and Xaysettha, Laos, to reduce dengue transmission. The program aims to raise awareness, promote community participation, and develop a plan for the release of Wolbachia-carrying mosquitoes to support sustainable dengue prevention and control.

Save the Children International will implement the scheme Pilot Implementation - WMP Wolbachia Technique Using the wMel Pressure to Reduce Dengue Spread in 32 towns in the Chanthabouly and Xaysettha Districts, Vientiane, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health's Department of Communicable Diseases Control.

In the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Rattanaxay Phetsouvanh, Director General of the Ministry of Health's Department of Communicable Diseases Control, and Mr. Eli Mechanic, Deputy Country Director of Protect the Children International in Laos, co-signed the Memorandum of Understanding concerning this pilot implementation on Friday at the Lao Plaza Hotel.

The MOU was signed in the presence of representatives from the province and district administration offices. This trial initiative is being supported by the World Mosquito Program in Australia, which will be reviewed by the Ministry of Health and executed in Laos by Save the Children International.

The program's main goal is to diminish dengue transmission in Lao PDR and to support national goals outlined in the Dengue National Action Plan on sustainable dengue prevention and control through a comprehensive integrated approach, with the program's main activities being to raise awareness through communication and encourage community participation, as well as to develop and coordinate a plan for the release of Wolbachia-carrying mosquitoes.
