District Hospital in Mamfe gets medical equipment worth 80 million FCFA after fire incident
Paul Biya, Head of State for Cameroon has donated medical equipment worth 80mn FCFA to the Mamfe District Hospital. This happened soon after an arson attack destroyed parts of the facility earlier this month.
This aid is called emergency aid” and was given the handover to the medical authorities, by Mengot Victor Arrey, the minister in charge for the presidency of the Republic.
On the night of June 8, unidentified gun men broke into the Mamfe District Hospital and set fire to the building. Minister of Public Health Manaouda Malachie said that the fire destroyed 9 out of 12 buildings. However, fortunately, because of the health staff’s bravery, aided by the general public, no life was lost among all 49 patients who were present.
After the fire sparked, urgent methods had to be bought out to ensure that the health services continued, said the government. These measures involve a field hospital set up, the transfer and effective deployment of medical equipment, including taking care psychological care of health workers, victims and their families.
