A comprehensive meta-analysis published in JAMA Internal Medicine has shed light on the correlation between daily toothbrushing and a decrease in the incidence of HAP. The analysis, conducted by Harvard University, reviewed 15 studies involving a total of 2786 patients. Interestingly, brushing twice a day versus more frequent intervals yielded similar effect estimates. The researchers concluded that standard care for ventilated patients should include routine toothbrushing, though the importance of this practice in preventing nonventilator-HAP remains uncertain.
