As part of its plan to enhance healthcare access and accommodate growing population needs, Texas Children's Hospital is set to open a new $485 million facility in Austin, Texas in February 2024. The hospital, which broke ground in 2021, will initially house 52 beds, with the capacity to expand to 100 beds as needed. The 385,000-square-foot campus will serve patients upon opening, with additional space reserved for future growth.

Addressing the Population Growth in Austin

The North Austin campus is a significant addition to medical care in the metro, addressing the explosive population growth in Travis and Williamson counties. The campus will employ 150 pediatric specialists new to the market and will create more than 1,100 jobs. The hospital's senior vice president, Russ Williams, emphasized the goal of meeting long-term needs without the necessity of further major construction.

Expanding Women's Health Services

In addition to pediatric care, the new Texas Children's facility will also significantly expand OB/GYN services for the Austin area. A new obstetrics and gynecology clinic, the Pavilion for Women, has already opened at the soon-to-be hospital. Offering comprehensive care in menstrual cycle management, prenatal and preventive care, and gynecological services, the clinic serves women of all ages and is located at 9817 N. Lake Creek Parkway.

The new hospital will also feature an adjacent building designed to connect families to numerous subspecialties within the hospital. This effort is in line with Texas Children's reputation as the nation’s largest pediatric primary care network in 2021, with 10 locations around the Austin area. The North Austin campus is poised to further expand the reach and quality of this network.

Contribution to the Community

By opening the new facility, Texas Children's Hospital is not only expanding its healthcare services but also contributing to the local economy by creating job opportunities. The hospital's commitment to meeting the long-term needs of the community without further major construction signifies its sustainable approach to healthcare.

Looking Forward

With its doors set to open in early February 2024, Texas Children's Hospital North Austin will play a significant role in providing women’s and children’s care in the region. The hospital’s strategic planning and expansion are testament to its dedication to cater to the growing healthcare needs of the Austin community.
