Germany's COVAX plant donated 583,200 shots of COVID-19 vaccinations to Liberia. UNICEF, a global partner of the Health Ministry of Liberia (MOH), distributed immunizations on June 1, 2022. The vaccines improve health care delivery and immunization nationwide. Wednesday night, Covid-19, measles, and BCG vaccines arrived at Roberts International Port.

The measles vaccines arrive as the country experiences an outbreak, and the BCG vaccine for tuberculosis arrived after being out of stock for weeks.

Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah, Liberia's Minister of Health, said the donated Covid-19 vaccinations will assist the country vaccinate 70% of its population.

“We're glad that our domestic and international allies continue to support the fight against COVID-19 and other diseases. Dr. Jallah is delighted that immunizations have arrived to tackle fatal diseases in the country.

She also urged parents to use the measles as well as BCG vaccines in the country. “I need to use this opportunity to call on every one of our people, particularly those who have not yet been immunized to get vaccinated.  I also want to appeal to new mothers that they should take their children to our health institutions for Measles and BCG immunizations."

Deputy German Embassy Head Peter Speyrer said the safety of the people depended on the safety of the individual, which prompted Germany's donation to Liberia.

The Health Ministry (MOH) by means of the Expanded Program for Immunization (EPI) and its partners are being complimented by WHO Africa Regional Director (WHO-AFRO) on the outstanding accomplishment in reaching more people with Covid-19 vaccinations and currently ranks 7 on the continent. Liberia has given 2,207,249Ccovid-19 vaccinations. Between March 5, 2021 and June 1, 2022, 3,814,960 doses were received.

103,038 children aged 9-35 months were vaccinated with measles-containing vaccinations (MCV) in 14 counties, excluding Margibi, during the first phase of the response strategy. On May 31, 2022, the country got 381,400 MCV doses in preparation for phase two, June 16-22, 2022 in all counties. To resolve stock-outs, the country got 110,000 BCG vaccine doses on June 1, 2022.
