Egypt’s minister of communication has mild symptoms after contracting COVID-19

Egypt’s Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, tests positive for COVID-19 with mild symptoms. Despite self-isolation, Talaat remains committed to his work and following treatment guidelines. Egypt's COVID-19 cases have significantly decreased in recent months, and the country is approaching zero coronavirus cases.

Amr Talaat, Egypt’s Minister of Communication and Information Technology said confirmatory tests for his coronavirus infection returned positive but that he is experiencing only minor symptoms.

“While in self-isolation in my home, I am adhering to treatment guidelines while trying to keep up with my work until I have completely healed by the grace of God,” was the message on the minister’s Facebook page. 

Since the onset of the pandemic 2 years ago, a handful of Egypt’s ministers have either directly gotten the virus or forced into quarantine after close exchange with sick persons. 

Egypt’s Covid-19 cases and mortalities have plunged significantly in recent months with a current single digit infections and fatalities. 

According to health authorities, in recent times, isolation clinics have not seen new infections and the country is drawing closer to no coronavirus cases.

In the previous week, the country’s parliament rescinded all entry limitations linked to COVID-19 for visitors regardless of their nationality.
