The Health ministry threw out an incidence of monkeypox on the night of May 20, 2022, and Ximena Garzón, Secretary of the State Department, emphasised there were no further cases reported of the illness on Ecuadorian soil.

Despite the lack of cases reported, the Ministry issued an epidemiological alert and purchased 1,000 monkeypox diagnostic kits as a precaution. The very first batch of tests is expected to arrive during the first week of June.

Monkeypox is unlikely to become an epidemic, according to global health officials, because its'speed' of transmission is relatively slow and propagation require careful contact with another person.
