Iván Duque, Colombia's President, declared on Tuesday that the COVID-19 pandemic-related health emergency measures would be repealed as of July 1.

In a speech from the Casa de Nariño, Duque emphasized that because a significant portion of the population has been immunized, the action will no longer be necessary. "On June 30, the Colombian health emergency will mark an end after 840 days. According to the committee's scientific analysis, there are no epidemiological justifications for keeping it going on for any longer," the president remarked.

The health minister, Fernando Ruiz, responded by stating that the decision to relax the restriction had been considered for several weeks and that the health emergency could only be declared over after a thorough analysis of the facts.
