The COVID-19 vaccine programme will begin this week, according to Guyana's Health Minister, Dr Frank Anthony, and will target children aged five to eleven.

"We will begin administering immunizations to youngsters from five to eleven years old beginning next week." "These are unique formulations; these aren't the ordinary vaccinations that we've been administering; this is a Pfizer-developed vaccine just for this age group," Anthony said.

The immunizations for the youngsters are part of a gift of 50,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine from the Spanish government. Children's books account for half of the total.

Guyana will also get more vaccinations under the COVAX project later this year.
