On May 23, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Royal Government of Bhutan signed a loan agreement for a Japanese ODA loan for the COVID-19 Crisis Response Emergency Support Loan of up to 3,300 million yen in Thimphu.

The program's purpose is to provide fiscal assistance to Bhutan's government in order to aid it in avoiding the negative effects of COVID-19. By enhancing COVID-19-related economic and social programmes, as well as policies that promote economic resilience and environmental sustainability, this could help Bhutan's socioeconomic stability and development initiatives.

This programme will support SDGs 2 (Zero Hunger), 5 (Gender Equality), 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and 13 (Climate Action).
