The Omicron sub-variant has been recognised as a 'Variant of Concern' by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.

According to the government, the BA.4 case, which came from South Africa on April 25th, only displayed modest symptoms. According to him, the problem has since been rectified totally.

According to the minister, the number of instances of Omicron variants BA.1 and BA.2 is still higher than the number of cases of BA.4 and BA.5 variations.

"As a result," he said, "adding Omicron variants BA.4 and BA.5 instances in the country is unlikely to result in a significant increase in the number of cases."

People should not be concerned or disturbed by the discovery of BA.4 in the country, he said.

"The Ministry of Health (MoH) will keep a close check on the progress of Covid-19," he said, emphasising the necessity of citizens adhering to normal operating procedures.
